You might be the target of a scam, but you don't have to become a victim.

When you can recognize a scam, you can protect yourself from becoming a victim.  The more you know about common scams and the tactics that are used, the less likely you are to fall for it.

Building Awareness

In an ideal world, everyone would instantly recognize a scam and nobody would ever become a victim.  My hope is that, through this site and through printed materials, I can contribute to that vision a little bit.

Building Awareness

Scams can be scary and intimidating, but everyone is capable of recognizing a scam if they know what to look for.  You just need to give yourself the time to think clearly, even if you're being pressured.

Providing Insight

Through research, distribution of printed materials, keeping this website up to date with scammer tactics, and answering whatever questions I can, I want to work towards putting scammers out of business.

Scam Education

Awareness allows you to take control and protect yourself from scams.

When you can quickly and confidently identify a scam, you can easily take control of the situation to avoid becoming a victim.  The more you know about their tactics, the more confident you can be.

How to protect yourself

About Me

Hi!  I'm Ryan.  For more than a decade, I have been researching and learning how various types of scams work.  It started many years ago when I started watching YouTube videos where people known as "scam baiters" would convince scammers that their scam was working and would keep the scammers on the phone for hours to waste their time, effectively keeping them from contacting other victims. At first, it was simply entertainment (it's rather enjoyable to hear the frustration in the scammer's voice when they realize they've been fooled). However, from time to time, these scam baiters manage to contact real people that were the targets and victims of real scams, and they would help them realize what's going on, quite literally saving the people from a scam in progress. Hearing the voices of these people as they're being scammed and listening to the tactics used by scammers, I realized a few things.

1) Scammers can be absolutely heartless, extracting every last dollar they can from their victims, regardless of how devastating or impactful it is.

2) These scams are incredibly effective when the right target is found, taking advantage of limited technical knowledge, desperation, and peoples' trusting nature.

3) The vast majority of scams are done using the same tactics, so if enough people can be made aware of how the scams work, the scammers would be out of business.

I decided to build a source for information about how to stop scammers from making you a victim. I'm completely independent and do this simply because I felt compelled to help people avoid being a victim of these scams.  I hope you find something useful here, and ultimately, never become the victim of a scam.

If you wish to help support the ScamAware cause, contributions are greatly appreciated but certainly not required.  Any amount helps, and anything I receive is put towards website maintenance, operational expenses and providing printed materials to the community.
